about / contact

Jon is a writer, editor and researcher who specialises in micro-fantasies and formal play. His poems are a grab-bag of parables, portraits and intimate examinations, as well as often being games of sequence and combination. He edits multi-author books that blur the lines between genres.

Poetry London have called him a “poet of fantastic inversions”. His work has been published in The Sunday Times and performed on BBC Radio 4, as well as appearing in a number of British and international journals. He won an Eric Gregory Award in 2012 and the Poetry London prize in 2014 and 2016.

He has also published academic papers in the field of game studies. A monograph, Dual Wield: The Interplay of Poetry and Videogames, is due out in late 2021 from DeGruyter.

Riotous
(Sidekick Books, 2013) • Winner of the 2014 Saboteur Award for Best Collaboration

Riotous is a three-way collaboration with Kirsten Irving and Cliff Hammett, who provided the illustrations. It was originally written and printed from home as a short run of booklets which were donated to the London Tropical Zoo to help them raise extra funds. As such, it consists of 29 light sonnets, each based around an animal rescued and homed by the zoo.

Later, we reproduced it as an official Sidekick Books publication, albeit as another short run, hand-binding copies with ribbon.
